HDD Drilling Project: Heron Island Research Station, University of Queensland (Herron Island QLD)

  • Executed a challenging HDD project within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park with strict environmental oversight by regulatory agencies.
  • Conducted a benthic survey to assess subsea HDD exit points, avoiding harm to the coral reef.
  • Completed a geotechnical investigation using vibrocoring to inform the design.
  • Completed directional drilling beneath a highly sensitive platform coral reef.
  • Designed, fabricated, and secured two new seawater intakes to the pipeline, anchoring them to the seabed.
  • The new seawater intake system exceeded the University of Queensland’s requirements, providing substantial time and cost savings while enhancing Heron Island Research Station’s capabilities.
